Medical data scientist

I have a broad background in scientific research, both in theory, planning and experimental practice, in the fields of tumour immunology, general immunology, vaccine production and research, virology, microbiology, molecular biology, protein chemistry, biochemistry, cell culture, laboratory animal experiments.

I also have experiences in leading people and teams both in biomedical research, ICT, and data science. In biomedicine I have hands on experience guidance of clinical studies in human and veterinary patients, writing ethical requests for human and laboratory animal research, writing scientific papers, writing popular scientific papers.

Other skills include broad knowledge in exact science (maths, physics, chemistry, biology), didactical skills, remedial teaching, presentations for various audiences, extended knowledge of computer programms, databases, data analysis, biostatistics, theology, computer technology (head ICT department).

More recently have expanded my knowledge to ICT. From a general background in programming, I have gained in depth knowledge of SAP retail implementation.

Additionally, I have background in education and theology, and I am interested in regulation, politics and ethics.
See linkedIN for my contact details.

The Dutch Stichting Nationaal Fonds tegen Kanker has kindly provided me with a three-years postdoctoral grant to investigate combination-immunotherapy (local IL-2 therapy) of prostate cancer (September  2008 until August 2011).

2008 SMBWO recognition: Immunology

Picture
In 2008, I received the SMBWO recognition in Immunology. SMBWO is the abbreviation of the Stichting Medisch Biologisch Wetenschappelijke Opleidingen (Foundation of Medical Biological Scientific Education).

1997-2001 PhD thesis

Picture
1997 to 2001, TNO, Rijswijk and AMC, Amsterdam. Developing non-animal alternatives for screening skin allergens and irritants. Both tests cultured human and porcine (ear) skin explants; the skin pieces were surgical and slaughter waste, respectively. Chemicals were painted on these explants. Epidermal toxicity was used for a measure of skin irritation. In absence of irritation, quantification of immunohistochemical stained Langerhans cells was used to determine allergenicity of the compounds.

1991-1994 Biology

Biology (medical); specialisation: immunology and molecular biology. Graduated for master title at Utrecht University.
Internship 1 University Medical Center Utrecht. Dept Pathology Interleukine-2 (IL-2) and radiation therapy in mouse models. Culture T lymfocytes and evaluating cellular immune response.
Internship 2 Utrecht University. Faculty of biology. Comparative Endocrinology. Molecular cloning of the Estrogen Receptor in the African catfish. Developed a faster variant of RACE. Literature study: Testis and growth factors.
